What is DSC?
Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) is a secure digital key which authenticates the user’s identity. This proof of identity or credentials can be used to access or sign documents online. It includes name, email, country, APNIC account name and public key. So digital signatures make use of the public key encryptions to create the signatures.
Who are eligible for DSC?
Individuals and organizations need to obtain the digital signature for many e-forms to be digitally signed by the authorized signatory. Directors, Auditors, Company Secretaries, Bank Officials and Other authorized signatories can obtain digital signatures.
What is the Information required for DSC?
There are different classes to be selected for Digital Signature Certificate
Class 1: This can be used only by individuals/private subscribers and not a company. This certificate will confirm user's name (or alias) and E-mail address only.
Class 2: This can be used by companies and other entities. It identifies the identity of a person which should not conflict with the information in well-recognized consumer databases.
Class 3: This can be used by individuals and organisations (who would like to participate in online auctions or tenders).For obtaining this certification the applicant must present himself In front of a registration authority.
The digital signature certificate details can be modified and an individual can hold a separate digital signature for personal and professional purposes.
The digital signature can be renewed within 7 days prior to the expiry of the existing certificate.
What is the Procedure to fill DSC and the documents required ?
First need to type the entity for which DSC is being applied if “individual” or “organization” on to the website of certifying authority licensed to issue Digital Certificates in India.
Then download the form and fill in the basic information in the form. Take the print of the completed form and keep it.
For Individual DSC below information is required to be filled in
Class of the DSC
Validity
Type : Signature , Encryption , combo
Applicant information ( like name, PAN, mobile, date of birth, city , state, gender, address, pin code , email ID ).
Attested ID Proof and Address proof.
Declaration by Application.
Information on GST.
Registration authority declaration
Passport size photo
For Organisation DSC below additional information is required to be filled in
Company Type
Document Section to be filled with supporting documents about (Company, partnership, proprietorship, AOP/BOI, LLP, and NGO/Trust.
Payment needs to be made by a demand draft or cheque in the name of the Local Registration Authority where the DSC application needs to be submitted for verification.
Mail DSC form with supporting documents for proof of identity and address attested by the attesting officer and payment document to the Local Registration Authority (LRA).
What is the validity of the Digital Signature Certificate?
It is valid for 1-2 years depending on the class of DSC as mentioned above.
What are the deliverables after receiving DSC?
Your signature is verified and authenticated to be used for filing income tax returns, e-tenders, for various regulatory company filings etc.
In how much time you can get DSC ?
It takes 3-4 days for processing the DSC application.
